Replacement

Air conditioners are rated by Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) numbers. The higher the SEER rating on a unit, the more efficient the system is. Systems installed 5 – 10 years ago, might operate at a 6.0-7.0 rating, while today’s generation of heating and air conditioning offer energy SEER ratings up to 18, the highest in the industry. The federal government has mandated that beginning in January 2006, all new systems must have a rating of at least 13 SEER. It may cost you up to 40% more to operate an older system with a low SEER rating, even if the unit has been trouble free. With today’s rising energy costs, many individuals are replacing their HVAC equipment to ensure they are paying for the most energy efficient and cost effective systems available.

Fulkerson offers free estimates to recommend the unit that is best for your home. We’ll evaluate your house and input data into our sophisticated computer software program to properly size and select the right unit for you. After a new system is installed our technicians will thoroughly test the equipment to ensure the unit performs as promised.

Indoor Air Pollution

Roswell, NM -- Cold weather is approaching, and that means more time spent indoors.  Most people spend 90 percent of their time indoors, and 50 percent of all illnesses are either caused by or aggravated by poor indoor air quality (IAQ), said Danny Fulkerson President of Fulkerson Services Inc. According to studies conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, exposure to air pollutants can be 100 times higher indoors than outdoors.

Indoor air pollutants can be the cause of numerous health-related problems. Indoor air pollutants can cause you to suffer from flu-like symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and respiratory irritation. They can also exacerbate existing illnesses such as allergies and asthma. Recent statistics show that more than 40 million people suffer from asthma and allergies.

Reducing the amount of pollutants in the air is the most effective way to improve indoor air quality. Frequent dusting and vacuuming will reduce the amount of dust and dust mites present in your home. However, not all airborne particles can be eliminated, said Fulkerson. Filtration devices can eliminate particles that are too small to be captured by a vacuum. Some filtration devices include UV light units, air filters, energy recovery ventilators (ERVs) and heat recovery ventilators (HRVs), and electronic air cleaners.

UV light units help decompose contaminants such as bacteria, chemicals, dust mites, animal dander, cat saliva, and mold through a process called photolysis oxidation. When the UV lights are installed in the ductwork of your central air and heat system, they can eliminate most of the organisms in the treated area.

Activated carbon and microbiocide treated filters can also purify your home’s air. Both the carbon and the microbiocide treated filters remove odor and kill bacteria, but the carbon filters are more adept at removing odor, and the microbiocide filters trap bacteria as the air is pulled through, which inhibits biological contaminants from growing.

The efficiency of the air filter should be a top consideration. Efficiency is measured in terms of the particle size an air filter can capture. The higher the efficiency, the more effective it will be. Look for the filter’s MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) number, a new industry standard that rates filters based on their performance. Residential filters typically have a MERV range of 1-8. Higher ratings indicate more efficient filters.
The energy recovery ventilators (ERV) and heat recovery ventilator (HRV) bring fresh air into the home and exhaust stale air out. The HRV conserves energy from indoor conditioned air, and transfers it to the outdoor air as it is brought into the home to provide ventilation. The ERV does the same thing, but it also maintains the desired humidity levels to keep the house comfortable.  Either one is a critical component for new homes, since they have the highest concentration of volatile organic compounds.

Electronic air cleaners clean the air by taking recirculated air and passing it through a pre-filter that traps the large pollutants. Then, ionizing wires give a positive electrical charge to remaining particles. The particles are collected by a negatively charged collecting section. Pollutants pass through an optional carbon filter that absorbs unwanted odors.

Breathe Easier Knowing Your Air Is Clean & Safe

It may surprise you to learn that the air in your home could be up to 70 times more polluted than the air outside! But think about it. Over the years, the forced air ducts in your home have been collecting dust and other debris. The environment inside these airways is dark and frequently damp—a perfect breeding ground for germs. In fact the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has documented pages and pages of biological contaminants that breed in air ducts and the health problems they can cause. Your home heating system is continuously forcing this “polluted” air into every room in your home.
There is but one solution: Have your air ducts cleaned and disinfected professionally at least once every two or three years. Fulkerson's makes this invaluable service safe, efficient and affordable. Using state-of-the-art equipment, we’ll clear your ducts of hazardous dust and debris leaving your home, right down to the air you breathe, cleaner, fresher, and safer!
WHY YOUR FILTER CAN'T KEEP CONTAMINANTS OUT OF YOUR DUCTS.

No filter, not even the expensive electrostatic kind, is 100% effective at filtering out contaminants from your duct system. What's more, harmful contaminants also get into your ducts from other places aside from where your filter is located. As you can see in the diagram below, once air goes through your filter it's sucked through the machinery that makes up your furnace or air conditioner. As a result, every time your system turns on, its moving parts and vibration shake up the dust that typically settles in your ducts-and the air that just went through your filter now blows that dust into your home. In addition, the process of heating or cooling your home creates the kind of temperature and humidity changes in your ducts that enable the growth of unhealthy mold, fungus and bacteria.

HOW TO TELL IF YOU HAVE AIR DUCT CONTAMINANTS
THAT COULD HARM YOU.

While unhealthy contaminants are mostly microscopic, there are some ways for you to detect if these bugs might be blowing out of your ducts and into the air you breathe. Do people who live in your home suffer from allergy, sinus or bronchial problems? (Airborne contaminants in the home are a major cause of these illnesses.) Are there soiled or discolored areas around your vent covers? Any unusual odors when the furnace or air conditioning is operating? Have you experienced a recent fire, water loss or flooding? How about recent remodeling or construction? If you have even the slightest suspicion that your ducts may be contaminated, now is the time to call us and to find out for sure. Like good health, the earlier you discover a problem the easier it is to cure it.

THOROUGH CLEANING PROCEDURES.

If you are located in one of our licenced areas we will be glad to come to your home and give you an accurate system inspection. Our cost appraisal is accurate because, unlike others who give you a price over the phone, ours is an itemized quote that can only come from an on-site inspection of your system. With our multi-step procedures, we are unmatched in our thoroughness.

Step #1: Remove & clean grills and registers.
Step #2: A high-powered vacuum is attached to your air system to collect dust and debris removing 99.97% of harmful contaminants.
Step #3: High pressure compressed air and special nozzles dislodge light dust and blow it towards the vacuum. While this is where other air duct cleaning companies stop, we've only begun.
Step #4: Compressed air blasts dirt away to the vacuum.
Step #5: Remove and professionally clean AC coil and blower.
Step #6: If mold or mildew is suspected, these allergy causing bugs are eliminated through our application of an EPA registered sanitizer.

Don’t be Cheated

Many low-skilled technicians may not have advanced diagnostic training, and may just replace parts until they find the problem or eventually replace the old equipment. This could cost you much more than you need to pay. At Fulkerson all of our technicians are continually trained to be up to date on all aspects of our industry. They will quickly apply diagnostic analysis, find the real problem and give you a specific price. Only a portion of the total efficiency of your equipment is the equipment itself. The rest depends on a skilled diagnostic analysis and expert installation.

Upfront Pricing

Some companies that “bill by the hour” may charge more for runaround time and pay their low-skilled technicians less as they “check out the problem.” Some may bill for runaround time because they may not carry a sufficient inventory of parts on their truck especially for equipment that is more than 10 years old where the problems usually occur. You won’t have to worry about that with us! Our trucks carry thousands of parts and supplies, which means we’ll probably have the parts you need with us when we arrive. And if we don’t, you won’t be charged extra for us to get it.

The bottom line is: you’ll always know the price up front before the repair is done, and you never pay for unexpected labor hours.
